Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hafez Karkout, reaffirmed the SOC’s support for the anti-regime uprising in Al-Suwayda province. He also expressed the SOC’s full support for the statement that was issued by leaders of the popular uprising and for the just demands of the people of Al-Suwayda.
Karqout stressed the need for international action to enforce UN resolutions and put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people by getting rid of the murderous regime, ensuring the release of all detainees, and building a new state of freedom, justice and democracy for all its citizens.
The people of Al-Suwayda issued a statement calling for holding the Assad regime and all its symbols accountable for crimes against humanity, the use of chemical weapons against civilians, and the systematic killing under torture of tens of thousands of detainees.
The people of Al-Suwayda responded to the Assad regime’s mouthpieces and its disinformation campaign accusing protestors in Al-Suwayda of being linked to “a global conspiracy” and of being “agents to the Israeli occupation.” The statement stressed that those who committed treason against the defenseless Syrian people have no right to accuse the Syrian people, including the people of Jabal Al-Arab, of being agents to foreign parties.
The statement stressed the Assad regime is the number one traitor and conspirator with its Iranian ally against Syria and the region. It added that the Assad regime bears primary responsibility for provoking sectarian wars, fueling sectarian conflicts, and tearing the nation apart in service of colonial projects.
Moreover, the statement emphasized that the fate of the people of Syria is one. They also called on the Arab brothers and the free world to ensure the enforcement of UN resolutions, most importantly resolution 2254 and bringing the Assad regime to international courts.
