The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that the attacks by the Assad regime, Russia, and the Iranian militias on the liberated areas and their burning of agricultural crops caused severe damage to the sectors of livestock and agriculture in the country.
Member of the SOC’s political committee, Muhammad Sallo, said that Syria is threatened with famine if the global food crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues.
He pointed out that Syria was self-sufficient in wheat, cotton and citrus fruits, as well as livestock, but is now threatened, like many countries of the world, in view of the sharp decline in agriculture and livestock.
Sallo pointed out that the relentless attacks by the Assad regime and its backers on the liberated areas burned the major crops in the country and reduced the agricultural areas and pastures. This made securing fodder for animals very difficult, he added.
