The Syrian Opposition Coalition said that the Assad regime and Russia have resumed their targeting of the liberated areas through airstrikes and artillery attacks, specifically in Idlib and Aleppo. This escalation coincides with the 20th round of Astana talks, posing a significant threat to the lives of millions of Syrians residing in these areas. The humanitarian situation has been deteriorating for many families, amplifying the urgency of the situation.
In press release issued on Tuesday, the SOC emphasized that the Syrian people are left to confront the Russian war machine, which actively supports the Assad regime. For over 12 years, the Syrian population has endured relentless killings and bombings without substantial efforts to halt the bloodshed, hold the Assad regime accountable, or initiate the necessary legal proceedings against it.
“It is evident that the Assad regime and its allies display a lack of belief in a political resolution that could alleviate Syria’s ongoing tragedy. Instead, they persist with a military approach, disregarding the implementation of crucial UN resolutions, notably Resolution 2254, aimed at achieving a political transition and ensuring accountability for the multitude of crimes committed by the Assad regime,” the SOC added.
