President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, sent a letter to Deputy Prime Minister and Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani to congratulate him on the appointment of Ambassador Ali bin Fahd Al-Hajri as his envoy for regional affairs.
Al-Hariri hailed Qatar’s prominent role in resolving conflicts and making peace in the region, calling for Qatar to play a similar role in Syria by engaging deeper in the political process and by urging the Arab League to seek a political solution in the country.
Al-Hariri stressed Qatar’s important role in supporting the efforts of the United Nations and the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, to reach a political solution in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and the relevant UN resolutions, especially resolutions 2254 and 2118.
Moreover, Al-Hariri emphasized Qatar’s role in the Arab League and the United Nations, commending its principled position calling for finding a genuine political solution in Syria that fulfils the demands of the Syrian people and restores stability to the entire region. He made it clear that a political solution is the only way to put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people.
Al-Hariri thanked the State of Qatar and its people for their stances in support of the Syrian people at the political, humanitarian and legal levels, most notably in the issue of accountability.
