The Syrian Opposition Coalition said that the latest report by the UN Human Rights Council’s Commission of Inquiry detailed the suffering Syrian children, women and men are going through as a result of military campaigns by the Assad regime forces and their allies.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the SOC said that “the report once again confirmed the Assad regime’s responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity as it listed around 50 attacks on hospitals, schools, public markets and populated areas during the reporting period.”
“The report condemns the Assad regime and its allies as well as exposes their crimes. It represents a dark stain on the conscience of the international community and its institutions that have turned into committees tasked with producing statistics and documenting the ongoing atrocities without taking any serious action towards those crimes, the criminals, or even towards the victims.”
The SOC stressed that “the United Nations, major institution and actors, and major players continue to express shock and concern without showing the slightest sense of responsibility. This stance lays bare this utter international inaction as it encourages the criminal to commit more crimes.”
“It is an ignominious moral failure that civilians in large areas remain vulnerable to mass displacement, torture, killing, and abuse at the hands of the Assad regime and its allies as well as extremist groups.”
The SOC called on the international community and UN Security Council to take urgent action to address the crimes listed in the UN Commission of Inquiry’s report. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
