The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said it was deeply shocked by the physical and sexual abuse a Syrian child in Lebanon has been subjected to recently. It stressed the need to urgently take legal action and hold the perpetrators accountable.
Lebanese media reported that a 13-year-old Syrian child had been subjected to physical assault and rape on multiple occasions. A video of three young men sexually assaulting the child has gone viral on social media. The video showed the three young men kidnapping the child, beating him, and forcing him to engage in sexual acts with them.
The SOC stressed that the Lebanese authorities must carry out their duties and assume their responsibilities in order to prevent the recurrence of such abuses; ensure the protection of refugees; and prevent any violations against them.”
“There is no denying the fact that the honorable Lebanese people stood by their Syrian brothers on several occasions,” the SOC said. It added: “They repeatedly reaffirmed their categorical rejection of all of forms of abuse, violations, and incitement of hatred against Syrian refugees as they reaffirmed their rejection of the hate speech and racist rhetoric that some official bodies chose to condone.’
“It is imperative to provide the Syrian refugees in Lebanon with the necessary protection and safeguard their rights. The Lebanese authorities are required to carry out their duties and assume their responsibilities in this regard.” (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
