Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Hakim Bashar, took part in a research symposium organized by the Kurdish Research and Development Institute in Erbil Governorate, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The symposium focused on the conflict between NATO and Eurasia in the Middle East and its implications for regional issues, including the Syrian crisis. The event gathered a diverse audience comprising researchers, academics, and university professors.
During his address, Bashar discussed the recent developments in Syria, both in the field and at the political level, and analyzed the impact of regional and international interventions. He underscored the SOC’s commitment to implementing UN resolutions on Syria, with a particular emphasis on Resolutions 2118 and 2254, aiming to achieve a just political solution that reinstates security and stability for Syria and the region.
Bashar highlighted that the Syrian crisis has transcended its initial status as an internal matter, becoming intricately linked with regional and international affairs. He held the Assad regime accountable for deliberately intertwining Syria’s situation with other geopolitical concerns to safeguard its rule, having sought assistance from Hezbollah, followed by Iran, and ultimately Russia.
Furthermore, Bashar asserted that resolving the Syrian crisis has become entangled with international policies centered on crisis management. This approach has adversely affected Syria and its civilian population, whose suffering has intensified over time due to the absence of a genuine solution that can restore stability to the country.
