President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi Al-Bahra, and President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Badr Jamous, held a meeting with the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, on Sunday, on the sidelines of the 21st Doha Forum. During the meeting, they discussed the imperative need to revitalize the political process to address the deteriorating situation in the country.
The two sides deliberated on the ongoing hindrance to the political process by the Assad regime, which prolongs its war on the Syrian people, exacerbating the suffering of Syrians. This concern is heightened by the recent announcement from the World Food Program stating the termination of its main program in Syria in February. Such a development poses a significant risk of transforming the humanitarian crisis into a full-fledged humanitarian disaster.
The meeting emphasized the critical nature of the absence of substantial international pressure to initiate a political process that contributes to the full implementation of UN Resolution 2254. Urgent action is essential to halt the worsening humanitarian and security conditions in Syria.
