The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Committee of Civil Society Organizations held a virtual meeting with Forum for Syrian Associations to discuss the situation of Syrian teachers in Turkey, stress the need to raise awareness among Syrian refugees about respect for the local laws, and discuss preparations for commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Syrian revolution in the liberated areas.
The meeting brought together the SOC’s Coordinator of civil society organizations Zuhair Muhammad, SOC’s members Kifah Murad and Adnan Rahmoun, member of the Forum, Ratib Al-Dibs, Suleiman Al-Salamah, and Muhannad Buwaydani.
Muhammad stressed the need for the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee to play a major role in solving the problems facing the Syrian nationals in Turkey.
Murad pointed to the SOC’s efforts regarding the situation of Syrian teachers as he said that he has recently met with the Director of Lifelong Learning in Ankara to discuss the issue of equalization of certificates. He also met with Syrian teachers and discussed with them their most pressing needs.
Rahmoun said that the SOC will seek to ensure that civil society organizations have active presence of in the upcoming Brussels meeting due to be held in late March in order to convey the suffering of the Syrian people. He suggested nominating organizations operating in Turkey and the liberated areas, pointing out that the SOC will work to nominate them through the Department of Foreign Relations.
For his part, Al-Salamah stressed the need for the combination of efforts as he stressed the need for the SOC to play a greater role in resolving the issues teachers are facing as they feel that the SOC is by their side and concerned with their cause.
