The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Communities Working Group convened with the Free Syrian Community in Bulgaria to discuss recent developments in the Syrian political process and address the concerns of the Syrian community in Bulgaria.
Held at the community headquarters in Sofia, the meeting was attended by Zuhair Muhammad, Coordinator of the Communities Group, Musab Shakoush, Head of the Free Syrian Community in Bulgaria, and Hassan Al-Rihawi, a member of the Community’s Board of Directors.
Muhammad emphasized the imperative of sustained communication and collaboration between the two parties. The discussions encompassed challenges confronting the Syrian community in Bulgaria and outlined essential measures to bolster its role within the local context.
Key topics included the ongoing political process, the desired political solution, SOC’s supervised activities, and the importance of activating the Syrian communities’ role, with specific emphasis on the community in Bulgaria. Participants also highlighted the adverse effects of reduced UN humanitarian aid to Syria and stressed the significance of economic development in liberated areas, advocating for investment and encouraging projects.
The meeting concluded with several recommendations, urging continuous coordination and cooperation with Syrian communities globally. Additionally, attendees proposed organizing a special conference for Syrian communities in the diaspora, starting with the Balkan countries and subsequently expanding to European Union countries in stages.
