The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Constitutional Working Group on Monday continued the series of technical meetings in preparation for the fourth round of talks by the Constitutional Committee due to be held in Geneva early next month.
Coordinator of the Group, Riyadh Al-Hassan, said that the Group reviewed a number of terms of reference already agreed upon in the procedural rules for the work of the Constitutional Committee issued by the United Nations, especially the “12 living principles,” previous Syrian constitutional experiences, and the papers that the Syrian Negotiations Commission and the Expanded Constitutional Committee have laid out during their preparations for the previous rounds.
The Group is discussing issues that are still on the discussion table in the Constitutional Committee as it is seeking to formulate proposals for constitutional provisions on these issues in order to support the delegation of the Syrian Negotiations Commission during the upcoming rounds of Geneva talks.
The Group is made up of members of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, the Syrian Negotiations Commission, and the SOC’s political committee.
The third round of talks by the Constitutional Committee concluded last month. The UN special envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, announced that the parties participating in the work of the Committee agreed to hold the next meeting in in Geneva in early October. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
