The delegation of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) to the Arab League stressed the need to isolate the Assad regime politically and economically in order to force it to engage in a political solution. They also stressed the need to hand over Syria’s seat in the Arab League to the SOC as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, and allow the SOC to participate in the League’s departments and committees.
The SOC’s delegation called on the Arab League to refuse to engage in efforts to legitimizing or rehabilitating the Assad regime, or readmitting it to the Arab League as it has long lost legitimacy and does not represent Syria or its people.
The delegation began an official visit to the Arab League in Cairo on Sunday, during which it met with Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki. They also discussed ways to revitalize the political process and hand over Syria’s seat to the SOC as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
The delegation comprised the SOC’s Vice-president for Foreign Relations Abdulahad Astepho, Secretary General Haitham Rahma, and member of the Political Committee Badr Jamous.
