The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Dialogue Committee convened to discuss the latest on the ground and political developments and develop new work mechanisms so as to achieve its goals. In attendance was SOC’s Vice-president Oqab Yahya.
The Committee made a thorough assessment of its work since it was established a year ago, and reviewed the consultative meetings that it had conducted with the various spectrums of Syrian society as part of the efforts to promote national dialogue and formulate a political vision accordingly.
Yahya stressed the importance of the Committee’s work and the need to continue to promote dialogue and develop the national discourse. He also pointed to the need to promote national dialogue in liberated areas and the areas held by the regime and the PYD militia as part of the SOC’s comprehensive reforms. He noted that these efforts are hoped to culminate in a national consultative conference, a goal that is at the heart of the reform process.
Yahya reiterated that the SOC is avidly seeking to achieve the participation it calls for, adding that this goal must remain on the top of the SOC’s list of priorities. He said that achieving this goal requires immense, effective work, coordination and communication amongst all components as well as openness to the various opinions so as to reach a common political vision that helps achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy.
