A heartfelt show of solidarity for cancer patients in northwestern Syria was demonstrated by Ahmed Bakkoura, a member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), in a moving video he posted on his Twitter page. In a touching display, Bakkoura’s children joined him in shaving their heads as a symbol of support for those suffering from the agonizing struggle against cancer in the region.
Expressing his frustration as a politician in finding immediate solutions for cancer patients in northwestern Syria, Bakkoura chose to participate in an online campaign recently launched by activists. The campaign urges individuals to shave their heads in solidarity with those battling cancer.
“In northern Syria, our innocent children and brothers enduring the agonizing struggle against cancer face a harsh reality where access to treatment has been cut off, exacerbated by the recent devastating earthquake that affected both Türkiye and northern Syria. Türkiye, once a refuge for the Syrian sick, can now not accommodate them in its hospitals as it once did,” he wrote on Twitter.
He added: “To our fellow Arab brothers and sisters, blessed with abundance, I implore you to extend your support and aid to those in need. Your assistance will help ease the suffering that has befallen our beloved Syrian people.”
“To our friends in America, Canada, Europe, Japan, and all free nations around the globe, we are eternally grateful for your standing by the Syrian people during our darkest times. Your compassion and generosity can now alleviate the pain of our afflicted people in your esteemed hospitals and benevolent lands.”
Moreover, Bakkoura appealed to relevant authorities within the United Nations, its specialized institutions assisting refugees, and international humanitarian organizations for urgent intervention and assistance. He emphasized that the necessary tools and treatment are currently unavailable in the liberated areas, adding to the already challenging circumstances. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
