The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Syndicates and Unions held a virtual meeting with Secretary General of the Syrian National Olympic Committee, Ahmed al-Ali and head of the Organizing Committee of the Syrian Football League Abdullah Al-Nasser to discuss the reality of Syrian sports and activities of Syrian athletes in the liberated areas and host countries.
Participants in the meeting included SOC’s President Nasr Al-Hariri and Coordinator of the SOC Office of Syndicates and Unions Abdel Majid Barakat.
Al-Hariri stressed the vital role Syrian athletes are playing in the liberated areas and host countries as he stressed the need to support Syrian sports and organizing them into professional sports.
For his part, Al-Ali talked about the importance of having an umbrella body comprising all Syrian athletes at home and abroad as he talked about the Syrian Olympic Committee’s efforts to attract all Syrian athletes and establish official sports federations.
Al-Nasser talked about the Syrian Football League in Turkey which includes 74 teams, pointing out that the league begun three years ago.
For his Barakat talked about the SOC’s efforts to help achieve the aspirations of Syrian athletes both in terms of giving official cover to Syrian sports, and in supporting all sport activities in the liberated areas and outside Syria.
Barakat also talked about the future plans of the committee, including the formation of a Syrian Football Association and preparing to announce the formation of the Syrian football team at a press conference due to be held next Saturday. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
