The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Unions and Syndicates discussed with the Turkish Ministry of Education the issue of Syrian volunteer teachers.
The Turkish Ministry of Education has recently announced that the contracts for Syrian teachers are considered expired as of July 1st. It added that it is currently holding meetings with UNICEF and the Turkish Red Crescent with the aim of discussing the issue of Syrian volunteer teachers.
However, the Ministry reassured the SOC’s Office of Unions and Syndicates that the announcement does not mean that the Syrian teachers have lost their jobs, adding that the issue is being discussed with the relevant authorities and donors.
The Ministry called for ignoring every news item or announcement if they were not issued by the official authorities, adding that it will announce the latest developments in this issue as soon as new decisions are made.
The two sides agreed to continue communications and consultations regarding the issue of about 13,000 Syrian volunteer teachers in Turkey. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
