The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held its regular meeting Monday with the chairmanship of President Nasr Al-Hariri and discussed the latest on the ground and political developments.
The committee discussed the situation in the liberated areas AND the mechanism of work of the SOC’s institutions. It also discussed the efforts to address the problems facing the IDPs, especially those living in the unofficial camps. The committee also stressed the importance of communicating with international organizations and friendly states to secure relief and medical aid on a regular basis.
Al-Hariri gave an overview on his recent discussions with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Germany’s Consul-General in Turkey. He pointed out that the discussions were positive and constructive with regard to the political process and the efforts to reach a political solution in the country in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolution 2254.
Al-Hariri also talked about the discussions the SOC held with its representatives in the Syrian Negotiations Commission and the Constitutional Committee. The discussions included an emphasis on commitment to the implementation of UN Resolution 2254, increased communication in order to make progress in the constitutional process, and the need to discuss the rest of the baskets in parallel with the work of the Constitutional Committee.
Moreover, Al-Hariri talked about the ongoing coordination with the US-based Syrian organizations in order to hold meetings with the incoming US administration and outline the SOC’s vision for a political solution in Syria and put forward proposals to make progress in a political solution that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy.
