The Political Committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) recently conducted its routine meeting, addressing several pressing issues, including the alarming military escalation by the Assad regime and Russia targeting civilian areas in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib, resulting in casualties and injuries. The committee members also analyzed the latest political developments.
During the meeting, participants emphasized that the regime’s and Russia’s persistent military escalation, aimed at obstructing any potential political progress, has become evident and well-known to the international community. They stressed the urgent need for a concerted international effort to halt this escalation and actively pursue the path of the political process in line with UN resolutions, particularly emphasizing the significance of the Geneva Communique of 2012, as well as Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Additionally, the attendees called for a comprehensive investigation into the tragic incident involving the sinking of a refugee boat on June 14 off the Greek coast, which carried numerous Syrian individuals seeking asylum.
The committee members also deliberated upon the European and American initiatives aimed at holding Bashar al-Assad and his regime accountable for the war crimes committed against the Syrian people throughout the past 12 years. These discussions centered on the importance of ensuring justice and accountability for the suffering endured by the Syrian population.
