The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee convened a regular meeting under the chairmanship of President Nasr al-Hariri to discuss the latest developments in Syria.

Participants discussed the tour that a SOC delegation made in the liberated areas last week and the various visits to the offices of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG). The delegation checked up on the progress of work as they held fruitful meetings with various spectra and segments of the Syrian people.

Al-Hariri stressed that the SOC will continue to make every effort to empower SIG in order to establish a unified, centralized administration in Syria, stressing the need to continue to strengthen communication between the SOC and SIG.

Participants also discussed the launch of the fifth round of talks by the Constitutional Committee as they stressed the need to change the work mechanism in order to reach tangible results leading to drafting a new constitution.

Vice-president Abdul Hakim Bashar gave an overview on the developments in the intra-Kurdish dialogue as he stressed that the decision of the Kurdish National Council is clear, which is to reach an agreement on everything or no agreement.

Bashar pointed out that there are five main points that need to be agreed upon without which no agreement could be reached, namely the dissociation with the PKK terrorist group, the withdrawal of foreign fighters from Syria, the change of educational curricula, the release of all detainees and the kidnapped, and the change of the social contract, and putting an end to compulsory military service.

Vice-president Oqab Yahya talked about the meetings that the SOC’s Al-Jazira and Euphrates Committee is conducting with the people of the provinces of Deir Ezzor, Raqqa and Hasaka and the results of forming political bodies to represent those provinces.

Vice-president Ruba Habboush gave an overview on her visit to the Youth and Women’s offices in the town of Azaz in rural Aleppo, where she was briefed on the progress of work and the new plans and mechanisms that the two offices will undertake in the period to come.

SOC’s Secretary-General Abdelbaset Abdullatif talked about the activities of the SOC’s offices in the liberated areas and the efforts to reach out to the revolutionary bodies in the region. He pointed out that there are important activities and meetings that take place on a regular basis. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people’s unity within the same Syrian soil
is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its
symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes
against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
