The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s political committee (SOC) on Monday held its regular meeting under the chairmanship of President Nasr Al-Hariri to discuss the latest on the ground and political developments.
Participants focused on the humanitarian situation of the Syrian refugees in neighboring and other host countries. They discusses ways to intervene to solve outstanding problems, such as the issue of the deportation of Syrian refugees from Jordan and Denmark, and the humanitarian situation of Syrian detainees in Lebanese prisons.
SOC’s Vice-president Ruba Habboush talked about the Syrian Women’s Forum which was held at the Free University of Aleppo in the town of Azaz in rural Aleppo last week. She also talked about preparations for the launch of the Syrian Women’s Commission.
SOC’s Secretary-General Abdelbaset Abdullatif gave an overview on the meetings he held with the representatives of the Syrian National Army and the National Liberation Front who have recently joined the SOC. He talked about the results of the meetings, which emphasized the need to coordinate efforts to achieve unity and define the tasks of the military bloc and its work within the SOC’s departments and committees.
Moreover, participants discussed the latest versions of the papers on constitutional chapters that include the judicial, legislative, executive, and the local authorities with the aim of formulating the results of the work into an integrated constitutional vision that will be part of the negotiating process of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva.
They also discussed the situation of academic educational in the liberated areas and the problems it is facing as they put forward proposals and recommendations that were referred to the SOC’s Department of Government Affairs for follow-up.
Participants discussed the proposals that were put forth by the SOC’s components on the political vision. A committee was formed to study the proposals and include them in the political vision.
The Military Liaison Office gave an overview on the situation on the ground, including maps of the current military deployment and the security situation in the liberated areas. The SOC’s Office of Syndicates and Unions presented its bimonthly report on the activities of the Syrian National Olympic Committee. The report also detailed the results of the meeting that Coordinator of the Office Abdul Majeed Barakat held with the Syrian Interim Government to discuss mechanisms for cooperation and coordination to solve problems related to sports to the satisfaction of all parties, especially athletes.
