The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) held a regular meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, which was attended by President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Bader Jamous, and Co-chair of the Constitutional Committee, Hadi al-Bahra. The meeting focused on reviewing the reports of the offices, committees, and departments, as well as a briefing on a recent visit to France by a SOC delegation.
During the meeting, Vice-President Abdulahad Astepho provided a summary of the SOC’s visit to France, which included meetings with the advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Pereira da Silva, the French special envoy for Syria, Brigitte Curmi, and the Turkish ambassador to France, Ali Onaner.
Astepho emphasized that the delegation stressed the need to reactivate the work of the Friends of the Syrian People group and to push for a political solution in Syria, in accordance with UN resolutions, in order to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity, and democracy. Additionally, the delegation called for pressure to be exerted for the release of detainees and for support of the Syrian Interim Government in the liberated areas.
Astepho also highlighted that the SOC’s delegation reaffirmed their commitment to the goals of the Syrian people and their revolution, which includes the rejection of the Assad regime, as well as their commitment to the political process within the framework of UN resolutions and the need to open all tracks of the process in parallel, particularly the track of the formation of the transitional governing body.
Jamous and Al-Bahra also gave overviews of their meetings in Geneva with UN envoy Geir Pedersen and representatives from the United States, Britain, France, and Germany.
