The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held a regular meeting on Wednesday and Thursday to review the reports of offices, departments and committees and discuss the briefing submitted by the UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, to the UN Security Council on Monday.
Vice-President Ruba Habboush gave an overview on the activities of the Syrian Women’s Authority and the ongoing preparations for holding workshops for Syrian women in southern Turkey on engaging Syrian women in political activities.
Vice President Abdulahad Astepho gave an overview on the ongoing preparations to visit the United States in conjunction with the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly. He stressed the need for the participation of the SOC’s offices, departments and committees in preparing papers that will be presented there.
Vice President Abdel Hakim Bashar spoke about the visits he made to the Syrian refugee camps in the Iraqi Kurdistan region in order to find out about the needs of refugees. He also talked about the seminars he held there in order to educate the Syrian Kurds about the importance of working with the forces of the revolution and the official opposition through the Kurdish National Council as an authentic Syrian component.
The committee also discussed the briefing of the UN envoy, Geir Pedersen in Geneva last Monday. Coordinator of the Office of Studies and Documentation, Firas Masri, said that the briefing bears a clear bias in favor of the Assad regime and conforms to the Russian vision. He said that the UN envoy departed from the context of his main mission by putting forward suggestions that are not in line with international resolutions on Syria, especially resolutions 2118 and 2254.
