The Secretary of the political committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, delivered a comprehensive work report during the 67th session of the General Assembly. In the report, he provided a detailed account of the committee’s activities, major issues, and files addressed over the past two months.
Barakat highlighted the decisions made by the political committee, including assigning the Legal Committee and the Office of Refugee Affairs to collaborate with Lebanese lawyers in filing lawsuits concerning the escalating violations against Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
He also discussed the committee’s external activities, notably its participation in a dialogue session hosted by the Stabilization Support Unit on Arab normalization with the Assad regime in April.
Emphasizing the stance of the SOC, Barakat expressed concern that Arab normalization with the Assad regime was an ill-advised move and failed to yield any positive outcomes in resolving the political or humanitarian crisis in Syria. He pointed out that such normalization did not offer assistance to the Syrian people in alleviating the suffering caused by the Assad regime. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
