President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, held a virtual meeting with the Director of the Department of Arab Affairs at the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Abdullah Matar Al Mazrouei. The two sides discussed the latest developments in Syria. Al-Meslet stressed the SOC’s rejection of normalization of relations with the Assad regime and that the reasons that led to its expulsion from the Arab League are still there.
Al-Meslet reaffirmed the SOC’s keenness on strong relations with the United Arab Emirates and all Arab countries, stressing the importance of the Arab role in Syria.
Al-Meslet added that the SOC is counting on the Arab role in order to advance the political process in Syria and reach a political solution in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Al-Meslet warned of Iran and its malicious schemes in the region, stressing that the Assad regime’s is subordinate to the Iranian mullahs’ regime and that it is impossible to dissociate the Assad regime from Iran.
Al-Meslet stressed the need to prevent any attempt to readmit the Assad regime to the Arab League, stressing that this is tantamount to handing over Syria’s seat in the Arab League to Iran.
Al-Meslet also reaffirmed the SOC’s keenness on the security of the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, condemning in the strongest terms the Houthi militia’s attacks on the GCC states, which come under Iranian orders.
Moreover, Al-Meslet raised the issue of detainees, stressing the need for international action in this issue, especially at this stage in which Russia is stepping up its crimes in Ukraine.
He pointed to the need to support the work of the Syrian Interim Government in the liberated areas in order to provide basic services to civilians, improve the living situation, and achieve security and stability.
For his part, Al Mazrouei thanked the SOC for its honorable stances rejecting the terrorist attacks of the Houthi militia on the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Al Mazrouei stressed the UAE people’s love for the Syrian people, stressing that his country always supports Syria’s stability and unity.
Al Mazrouei pointed out that the UAE supports a political solution in Syria that achieves stability and that it rejects any interference by Iran in Syria’s internal affairs.
He pointed out that there is yet no Arab consensus on the return of the regime to the Arab League, adding that no Arab state can take this decision unilaterally.
