The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, recently met with ambassadors from several friendly and sister countries in Doha, Qatar. The gathering took place during an iftar banquet, hosted by the Syrian embassy in Qatar. Al-Meslet called on the ambassadors to remain resolute in their support for Syria and to uphold the implementation of UN resolutions, particularly the Geneva Communiqué of 2012, as well as Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Accompanying Al-Meslet were Bilal Turkiah, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Qatar, and Saad Baroud, the First Secretary. In attendance were diplomats from France, Spain, Türkiye, Portugal, Macedonia, and several African nations, along with representatives from the United States, Ukraine, and several European countries.
During the meeting, Al-Meslet provided an update on the latest political developments in Syria and emphasized the need to achieve political transition in the country in line with UN resolutions.
Al-Meslet reiterated the SOC’s rejection of any attempt to rehabilitate the Assad regime and the importance of holding those who have committed war crimes against the Syrian people accountable, particularly in light of the regime’s responsibility for heinous crimes against civilians, including the use of chemical weapons.
