President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, met the Association of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the town of Ras Al-Ayn in rural al-Hasaka to check up on their living conditions, needs and complaints. The visit was arranged by the SOC’s Department of Refugee Affairs.
Al-Hariri was accompanied by Vice-president Ruba Habboush, Secretary General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Secretary of the political committee Riyad Al-Hassan, and SOC’s members Bahjat Atassi, Yasser Al-Farhan, Adnan Rahmoun, Muhammad Qaddah and Ahmed Tomeh.
The Association comprises about 5,000 IDPs who were forcibly displaced from their homes in various Syrian provinces by the Assad regime and the PYD militia.
Members of the Association demanded the presence of a representative for them at the local council in order to solve their issues and provide for their needs, especially in light of the dire conditions the IDPs in northern Syria are going through.
Members of the association also demanded that they take part in local administration as well as in civic, revolutionary and cultural activities and events in the town. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
