President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, met Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar, Ali bin Smaikh Al-Marri, in the Qatari capital, Doha on the sidelines of an official two-day visit by a SOC’s delegation to the State of Qatar.
The delegation comprised Head of the Syrian Interim Government, Abdurrahman Mustafa, Vice-presidents Abdul Hakim Bashar and Ruba Habboush, Secretary-General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Coordinator of the Department of Foreign Relations, Abdulahad Asteipho, and the Chargé d’Affairs at the Syrian Embassy in Qatar, Bilal Tirkiya.
The two sides discussed the importance of documentation of human rights violations, the role of national human rights committees, the various mechanisms for documenting of violations, and cooperation in the area of human rights. They stressed that the Assad regime must be held accountable for the crimes it is committing against Syrian civilians.
The two sides also touched on several important issues, including developments in Syria, developments in the political process, and the need to reach a political solution in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
