President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Nasr al-Hariri, met with the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, in Erbil on Thursday. They discussed bilateral relations and the major, common issues and challenges facing the region.
The meeting brought together SOC’s Vice-presidents Abdel Hakim Bashar and Ruba Habboush, Secretary General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Coordinator of the Department of the Foreign Relations Abdulahad Asteipho, members of the political committee Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, Muhammad Salou, Yasser Al-Farhan.
Al-Hariri commended the stances of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region towards the Syrian people and their legitimate demands, especially its hosting of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees who had sought refuge in the region in these difficult circumstances.
Al-Hariri stressed the serious challenges caused by the Iranian project and its malicious arms in Syria and the region, as well as the danger of the PKK terrorist organization in northeastern Syria and its terrorist practices against the Syrian people, especially the Kurds, such as the forced recruitment of young men, girls and children, arbitrary arrests, and demographic and cultural change.
For his part, Barzani reaffirmed Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s supports for all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution in Syria in accordance with UN resolutions and in a way that achieves the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity, democracy and removal the dictatorial Assad regime. He also stressed the need for securing the rights of all components of the Syrian people, including the Syrian Kurds as he stressed the importance of coordination and cooperation to overcome common challenges.
