President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, met the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister, Sedat Önal, in New York, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting brought together President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Badr Jamous, Co-chair of the Constitutional Committee Hadi al-Bahra, Head of the Syrian Interim Government Abdurrahman Mustafa, and SOC’s Vice President Abdulahad Astepho.
The two sides stressed the need to revitalize the political process to implement UN resolutions, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254, to reach a political transition that fulfills the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity and democracy.
They also discussed field developments in Syria, the conditions in the liberated areas at the administrative level, ways to improve basic services, and the latest developments in the political process.
For his part, Mr. Önal reaffirmed his country’s support for the Syrian people as he stressed that there is no change in the Turkish position.
