President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, met with Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Hemin Hawrami and representatives of parliamentary blocs, including Turkomen and Assyrian–Chaldean. They discussed common issues and political developments in the region as Al-Hariri expressed his high appreciation to the government for Kurdistan Region of Iraq for hosting Syrian refugees.
The meeting brought together SOC’s Vice-presidents Abdel Hakim Bashar and Ruba Habboush, Secretary General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Coordinator of the Department of the Foreign Relations Abdulahad Asteipho, members of the political committee Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, Muhammad Salou, and Yasser Al-Farhan.
Al-Hariri talked about the dangers of Iran’s quest for regional hegemony, describing it as a cancer threatening the entire region. He pointed to the need for the US position to be more serious in confronting the terrorist Iranian militias as well as organizations such as ISIS and PKK, stressing that the fight against terrorism is consistent with the will of the SOC. He condemned the recent terrorist attack on Erbil.
For his part, Hawrami talked about pluralism and coexistence in the society of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, noting that the region is governed by the rule of law. He stressed importance of the culture of peaceful coexistence as he gave an overview on the Parliament’s experience with regard to the mechanism of action in protecting components and overcoming legal problems.
