President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem al-Meslet, met with the advisory board of the Syrian Tribal Council at the Council’s office in Gaziantep. They discussed the field and political developments, the work of the Syrian Interim Government, and the important role of the Syrian National Army in protecting the liberated areas and ensuring security and stability.
Al-Meslet was accompanied by representatives of the Council in the SOC Ahmed Tomeh, Ibrahim Al-Malli, Jihad Marei, Hamida Al-Humaidi, and Faisal Al-Sultan. He stressed the role of the Syrian tribes and their support for the aspirations and rights of the Syrian people, pointing out that the wisdom of tribal leaders and elders was able to know the right direction, which strengthened the momentum of the revolution and allowed it to continue in the face of the Assad regime’s bloody military approach.
Al-Meslet reiterated the importance of unifying the civil administration across all the liberated areas, as well as unifying the legal and administrative references through empowering the Syrian Interim Government.
He praised the Syrian National Army’s efforts to protect the liberated areas against the militias of Assad, Iran and the terrorist PKK organization. He added that the SOC is working with the Syrian Interim Government to ensure that all military formations are unified under one banner and one leadership.
Moreover, Al-Meslet stressed the strong relationship with Turkey, which is required by geopolitical, historical and social imperatives. “We have no doubt that part of the war in Syria is directed at Turkey which is being targeted by terrorist and separatist militias. This requires continued cooperation between the Syrian National Army and the Turkish Army.”
He also talked about the international developments affecting Syria, especially the Russian aggression against Ukraine, stressing that Syria is always present at the heart of all events. He pointed out that the international community’s failure to provide enough military and political support for the Syrian revolution had encouraged Putin to seek international expansion up to the outskirts of Europe.
Al-Meslet stressed that the international community is required to rectify its mistakes in Syria and deny Putin any opportunity for comfort to the point of sending Assad’s militias and the mercenaries of Putin and Khamenei to fight anywhere they want.
