President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah regarding the provision of support for the internally displaced people (IDPs) living in camps in northwestern. The region is witnessing severe weather conditions as a result of a snowstorm.
Al-Meslet thanked the State of Kuwait and its people for standing by the Syrian people and seeking to alleviate the suffering they have been enduring as a result of the brutality of the Assad regime and its backers.
Al-Meslet pointed out that this winter has brought with it immense suffering for the IDPs in northwestern Syria, especially in the unofficial camps in the Afrin region in rural Aleppo. He added that the IDPs are suffering severe shortages of heating fuel and foodstuffs, noting that hundreds of tents were damaged by the snowstorm.
Al-Meslet expressed his hope that the State of Kuwait will step up urgent aid for the IDPs in the camps, especially winter needs and medical aid to protect the IDPs from infectious diseases. He pointed out that hospitals and medical centers in the region cannot provide enough medical services due to the scarcity or interruption of support.
