President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, sent a letter to Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud regarding the enforcement of a political solution in Syria and the need for the Arab League to take effective positions to implement UN resolutions on Syria, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolution 2254.
Al-Hariri stressed the importance of Saud Arabia’s role in the Arab League and the United Nations as well as its firm, principled position calling for expediting the efforts to reach an inclusive political solution that meets the demands of the Syrian people; brings their suffering to an end; and restores stability to the entire region.
Moreover, al-Hariri praised Saudi Arabia’s role and its efforts in sponsoring the formation of a new Yemeni government in implementation of the Riyadh Agreement. He stressed the SOC’s strong belief in the pioneering diplomatic role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is avidly seeking to resolve conflicts and bring peace and stability to the region.
Al-Hariri said that the SOC is looking forward for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to play an important diplomatic role in supporting the efforts of the United Nations and the UN Special Envoy to Syria to reach a political solution in line with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and the relevant UN resolutions, especially Resolution 2254 of 2015 and 2118 of 2013.
Hariri extended the SOC’s sincere thanks and gratitude to the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its political, humanitarian and legal support for the Syrian people, especially in the issue of holding war criminals accountable.
