Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haitham Rahma, presented a report on the work of the General Secretariat to the General Assembly’s 59th regular session, The report highlighted the work of the Secretariat and its role in political and legal work, most notably its holding of several meetings in the liberated areas with the civil and revolutionary actors.
Rahma gave an overview on the structure, legal and administrative work of the General Secretariat. He stressed the importance of strengthening institutional work, raising the level of intra-Syrian communications, and providing services and support for the activities of the SOC’s departments, offices and committees.
Rahma also gave an overview on the work of the SOC’s office in rural Aleppo, stressing the need to continue strengthening the SOC’s presence in the liberated areas and developing administrative work of the office.
He pointed to the importance of cooperation and coordination with the Syrian Interim Government and the Assistance Coordination Unit in all operational matters related to serving our people in the liberated areas and host countries.
Rahma also talked about his participation in the sixth session of the Constitutional Committee, the Assad regime’s continued obstructionism of the work of the Committee with the support of its international backers. He stressed the need for a thorough assessment of the political process and the available options in light of the ongoing inactivity and inaction of the international community.
