Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdelbaset Abdullatif, received a delegation from ‘Side by Side Special Needs Organization’ (SSNORG) and discussed with them the various problems people with disabilities suffer from. They also discussed ways to reach out to the majority of Syrians with disabilities in Turkey and in the liberated areas, and to provide them with necessary support.
The meeting brought together Coordinator of the SOC’s Department of Civil Society Organizations Zuhair Muhammed, member of the SOC’s General Assembly Kifah Murad, SSNORG’s Executive Director Firas Al-Fawal, Chairman of the Board of Directors Yusuf Türkoğlu, and Board Member Omar Nimer.
Abdullatif said that the SOC and the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) will spare no effort to facilitate the Organization’s work in the liberated areas.
Abdelbaset stressed the need for marketing projects for people with disabilities through direct support or encouragement to open offices for people with disabilities in the liberated areas or in Turkish with large numbers of Syrian refugees.
Murad pointed out that all local councils have relief offices to which the majority of people with disabilities resort to, noting that the activities of these offices are limited to relief aid despite the growing needs of people with disabilities.
Murad stressed the importance of communication and coordination with these offices as she praised the role of organizations in supporting people with disabilities in the liberated areas.
For their part, the SSNORG’s delegation called on the SOC to instruct its executive institutions in the liberated areas to assist the Organization in marketing issues and logistics people with disabilities need in official departments through the Syrian-Turkish Joint Committee.
