Abdul Majeed Barakat, Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), held a meeting with Ahmed Al-Khatib, Head of the Sports and Youth Commission, along with several members of the Commission. The meeting took place at the SOC’s office in the town of Azaz in the Aleppo countryside.
Discussions between the two sides revolved around the Commission’s ongoing activities and its endeavors to unite Syrian athletes, representing Syrian sports on the international stage. Al-Khatib outlined the Commission’s work plan for the upcoming phase, highlighting the various activities and competitions it is preparing to participate in. He also addressed the challenges and obstacles hindering the Commission’s work, presenting potential solutions that require assistance for implementation.
Deputy Head of the Commission, Hassan Qassa, shared insights into the diverse activities undertaken by the Commission to develop the capabilities of young people in liberated areas. These initiatives aim to qualify and empower them with skills, enabling them to play active and inspirational roles in their communities. Qassa also emphasized the importance of engaging with various youth segments in society, recognizing them as the future of the country.
Barakat commended the efforts dedicated to achieving the Commission’s objectives, emphasizing the advancement of Syrian sports work and the establishment of alternative sports institutions to counter Assad’s illegitimate establishments.
