Ruba Habboush, Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), delivered a comprehensive report on her recent activities and accomplishments to the political committee during their Wednesday meeting. The report featured Habboush’s participation in political workshops addressing the consequences of Arab normalization processes with the Assad regime, as well as her work with the Syrian Women’s Authority.
Habboush provided insights into the significant event organized by the Syrian Women’s Commission on International Women’s Day. During the event, she emphasized that International Women’s Day should not be reduced to mere congratulations, but rather be recognized as an opportunity to champion women’s rights and advocate for meaningful action. Habboush also paid tribute to prominent figures like Raifa Sami, Fattoum Razzouk, and the late professor Basma Kodmani, all of whom played pivotal roles in the political landscape of the Syrian revolution.
Addressing the representation and participation of Syrian women in political bodies, Habboush underscored the need to challenge stereotypes and limitations imposed on women within the revolution institutions. She stressed the importance of implementing specific measures and laws that value women based on competence, experience, and their actual contributions. Habboush emphasized that women should be regarded as active members and crucial actors within Syrian society.
