Hadi Al Bahra, member of the political body, said that “the Assad regime has already proven that it is not committed to any political solution during the Geneva II talks; therefore, issuing statements without taking specific and punitive measures to put pressure on the Assad regime is a waste of time and is tantamount to giving a license to the Assad regime to continue with its crimes.” Bahra was commenting on the Arab Summit communique, which stresses the importance of reaching a political solution in Syria. Bahra also said that “President Putin should have directed his efforts and his letters to the Assad regime and put pressure on it to convince it of the unfeasibility of a military solution and of the necessity of implementing the UN Security Council resolution No. 2118, regarding the dismantling of Syria’s stockpiles of chemical weapons.” Bahra’s remarks came in response to the letter sent by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Arab League, stressing “the importance of working on the resumption of negotiations between the Assad regime and the Syrian Coalition.” Furthermore, Bahra stated that Russia must put pressure on the Assad regime not to run for presidential elections, as it violates the Geneva I declaration. “The first step to demonstrate the seriousness of the regime in reaching a political solution is the commitment to the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2139 regarding the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged areas.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
