A Syrian Coalition delegation met yesterday with Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and a delegation from the Russian Foreign Ministry to discuss prospects for holding a Geneva III conference.
The Syrian Coalition delegation pointed out that their position of Geneva II was positive, but the intransigence of the Assad regime has foiled the conference.
The delegation stressed engaging in new negotiations in Geneva must be preceded by clarification on the agenda of the conference, insisting that the full implementation of the Geneva Communique and the formation of a transitional governing body with full powers must be the priority of the meeting.
The meeting also discussed the fight against terrorism, while the Syrian Coalition’s delegation emphasized that the problem of terrorism cannot be tackled without addressing first the root cause of this problem, which is the tyrannical the Assad regime. The best strategy to eradicate terrorism begins by forming a transitional governing body with full powers.
The Syrian Coalition also emphasized that Iran cannot be part in any new negotiations in Geneva unless it recognizes the Geneva Communique that calls for the formation of a transitional governing body. The Syrian Coalition’s delegation demanded appointing a permanent representative of the Syrian opposition in Moscow to increase communication with the Russian government. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
