Vice-President Hisham Marwa said that the Assad regime continues to flagrantly use the use blood of unarmed civilians to send more political messages to the world and to keep his hold on power.
Dozens of mortar shells struck residential neighborhoods in Damascus yesterday, coinciding with the visit of the UN envoy Staffan de Mistura to Damascus. “Whenever UN and Western officials visit Damascus we see similar attacks on civilian areas, a devious tactic that the Assad regime reports to in order to blame rebel fighters,” Marwa said.
Marwa reiterates targeting of urban areas, stressing that rebel fighters have repeatedly confirmed their committed not to neutralize residential neighborhoods as they explicitly adopt attack on the regime’s military and security targets.
Marwa added that the residents of Damascus realize that they have become hostages and bargaining chips in the hands regime’s hands in an effort to influence the political process and foil any possible solution. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
