The Syrian Coalition condemned the massacre perpetrated by Assad forces in the town of Deir al-Assafir in Rural Damascus earlier today, when Assad’s warplanes struck a school and the only operating hospital in the town with over 10 air strikes. At least 20 civilians were killed and dozens wounded in the attacks, including members of the medical staff, women and children.
The Coalition said that today’s massacre is added to a litany of crimes perpetrated by the Assad regime against the Syrian people. The Assad regime, the Coalition added, continues to seek the collapse of the truce by continuing to violate it in an attempt to evade engaging directly and seriously in the political process.
The Coalition called upon the international community to take real and urgent action against this massacre and to send direct and strict messages to the Assad regime that it will not tolerate such crimes. The Coalition added that the regime’s repeated breaches of the truce are also designed to empty the truce agreement from any meaning or value.
Observing the truce is not limited to a single party, the Coalition warned, adding that the regime’s continued crimes against Syrian civilians will undermine the entire political process. It said that the international community needs to realize the risks behind any possible failure of the political process in Syria. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
