Nora Al Ameer, vice president of the Syrian Coalition, said that the “Assad regime continues its attempts to crush the revolution, especially in Homs the capital of the revolution, and oppresses people’s aspirations for freedom and dignity. Today marks the anniversary of the massacre of the Clock Square in Homs, when thousands of people spontaneously gathered in the square after a funeral of seven people killed by regime forces the previous day during a demonstration in Bab Assibaa’ in Homs. The sit-in lasted till after midnight, when regime forces opened fire on the protesters, killing dozens. The real number of those massacred is still unknown as regime forces took the bodies and kidnapped the wounded and arrested many demonstrators.” Al Ameer also said that “the Assad regime is showing the utmost disregard for the agreements and truces signed with the people in the areas under siege in Homs and elsewhere. The Assad regime also reneged on Geneva I declaration and the decisions of Geneva II which stressed the need for an international mediator to oversee the implementation of the truce. The Assad regime has been using starvation as a weapon of war to bring the Syrian people to their knees.” Al Ameer expressed hope that “international pressure on the regime by the United Nations and European countries result in lifting the siege of Homs and the opening of humanitarian corridors in accordance with UN resolution No. 2139. “We hold the international community responsible for the Assad regime’s breach of the UN resolution No. 2139, and the continued bombing of Homs with all types of weapons.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
