Nazir al-Hakim, member of the political committee and member of the Syrian Refugees Committee participated in a conference on a new vision of international relations in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana on Monday and Tuesday. The conference discussed the Syrian refugees’ crisis, particularly in transit countries.
Hakim called upon transit countries to facilitate the crossing of Syrian refugees to the countries of asylum, pointing to the need to shelter them in safe areas and to provide them with support.
The conference was attended by nearly 200 officials, including a number of heads of states and governments, around 30 foreign ministers, head of the International Criminal Court and the heads of international relief organizations. Hakim delivered most of them a letter urging them to put more pressure on the Assad regime, pointing out that the Syrian interim can carry out its duties once the enough support is secured.
He also calls for protecting civilians inside Syria from the regime’s aerial bombardment, pointing out that the targeting of civilians is the main reason behind the outflow of refugees. He stresses that the most feasible solution for the refugee crisis is the establishment of no-fly zone in Syria.
He said Europe will continue to face a refugee crisis because many now rule out any chances restoring stability to Syria in the foreseeable future. Addressing the refugee crisis requires a strategy that reflects a seriousness in find a political solution in Syria. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
