Anas al-Abdah, member of the political committee, said that the report released today by the U.N. commission of inquiry clearly states that “Syria’s military and air force continue to commit serious violations, including aerial bombardment and barrel bombing, particularly of Aleppo, Daraa and Rural Damascus.” Abdah points out that “the commission of inquiry’s report further confirms that the Assad regime is committing war crimes and crimes and against humanity, as it is the only regime to use internationally banned weapons, such as chemical weapons and ballistic missiles against civilians.” Commenting on the report confirming that the Assad regime used the poison gas chlorine in eight incidents in April, Abda said that this further confirms that Assad can never be a partner in the fight against terrorism, which he himself fed and allowed to fester in the region.” Also commenting on the report’s accusation of the Islamic State’s insurgents of committing war crimes, including amputations and public executions, sometimes in the presence of children, Abda stresses that this extremist group is alien to Syrian society, which totally rejected it. While the Syrian people have been suffering under the nascent terror of ISIS, this suffering is not a match to the 40-year-long terror of the Assad regime. The Syrian people alone cannot fend off the terror of ISIS and the Assad regime on their alone, and there must be an international will to empower the Syrian people to face this double threat. To put an effective policy in place to fight terrorism, the real source of terrorism represented in the Assad regime must be eliminated. The findings of the commission of inquiry are supposed to create an international will to help the Syrian Coalition and the Syrian people counter these two threats. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
