Louay Safi, the official spokesman for the Syrian Coalition, said that the Iranian and Russian policies “seek to create a criminal and vengeful trend within Syrian society to keep the instability in Syrians.” Safi also stressed that those countries’ silence towards the massacres committed by the Assad regime against women and children in conjunction with the issuing of many statements on the rumored abduction of the nuns “shows that the interest of the Syrian people is not among their concerns and that their positions are merely “words designed for political consumption.” Safi went on: “Iran is still working on prolonging the conflict in Syria as a means to achieve their goals and political interests.” Furthermore, the spokesman pointed out that the regime’s intensification of massacres in Syrian cities, especially in Nabek where more than 40 civilians, including 13 children and many women were killed, prove that “the Assad regime is keen on a military solution.” Safi added that the regime’s talk about achieving a political solution is a “solution is an attempt to cover up its brutal massacres against the Syrian people.” A Syrian Coalition’s statement urged countries of the “free world” to act to protect civilians in Syria and to intervene immediately to maintain international peace and security in accordance with the United Nations Charter. The statement said that Assad’s forces, supported by sectarian mercenaries, murdered scores of civilians, including women and children, in al-Fattah neighborhood in the town of Nabik on Friday, December 6th, 2013. After killing civilians, who were hiding in the basement of a building, Assad’s forces set fire to the bodies in an attempt to destroy any evidence. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
