Nora Al Ameer, vice-president of the Syrian Coalition, warns that the Assad regime may commit another massacre using chemical weapons, pointing out that the claims contained in a letter sent by the Assad regime to the United Nations are completely false and unsubstantiated and nothing more than a tactic used by the Assad regime as a prelude to committing another massacre in Ghouta, Damascus. “We were not surprised by this letter, which recalls statements made by the regime’s ambassador to the United Nations, Bashar Jaafari, when he warned six days ago that “the rebels may attack convoys carrying chemical weapons near the Syrian coast.” Al Ameer also stresses that the international community must take a proactive steps to prevent this massacre which the Assad regime is planning to carry out. The failure of the Assad regime to reach a truce with the rebels in Jobar, which is the gateway to Damascus, spurred it to send these threats against the inhabitants of this neighborhood, emboldened by the inaction of the international community following the chemical weapons attack on Ghouta, Damascus last year. The Assad regime has recently repeated its use of chemical weapons in Zara and Harasta, thus violating the agreement signed with OPCW for the handover of its chemical weapons.
