The Syrian Coalition calls upon the Lebanese government to provide protection for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, denouncing at the same time the attack on the Lebanese government forces that left a number of killed or injured. “We call upon the Lebanese government to immediately stop the arbitrary measures taken against the Syrian refugees following the attack on its forces. Everyone must work on ensuring the safety of all Lebanese and Syrian civilians in light the repeated attempt by some sides to sow division and strife between the two peoples.” The Syrian Coalition’s calls followed an attack carried by an armed group on elements of the Lebanese army in the area of Arsal on Saturday. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed during the attack, and we stress the need to respect the independence, stability sovereignty of the Lebanese state. We truly appreciate Arsal’s hosting of thousands of Syrian refugees, so Syrians can never draw the town into a direct confrontation with the Lebanese authorities or engage in battles unrelated to the struggle against the Assad regime and its allies. The root reason of all problems in Lebanon is the intervention of Hezbollah on the side of the Assad regime in its war on the Syrian people, which has caused chaos on the Lebanese-Syrian borders that was exploited by some sides seeking to violate the sovereignty of Lebanon and destabilize its security. Therefore, the continuation of Hezbollah to send fighters to defend the Assad regime and participate in the repression of the Syrian people will not only drag Lebanon into a conflict, but also will threaten the security and stability of the entire region.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
