The Syrian National Coalition hailed the involvement of Syrian women in the revolution, praising the “firm belief of a nearing victory and salvation from tyranny.” The Syrian Coalition called on the United Nations to declare it will “wear the color red instead of orange in honor of the Syrian women who died as a result of the violence of the tyrant dictator Bashar al-Assad who are of equal importance to those who were killed by the tyrant Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.” The Syrian Coalition said that “regime forces have killed around 10,000 women over the past thirty months through bombings, summary executions, and torture.” The statement also noted that the Syrian Coalition “recorded many cases where women were slaughtered with knives, burnt alive or thrown down from high places such as high buildings.” The statement added that “1.06 million Syrian woman have become refugees to neighboring countries, and there are women who have lost their lives as a result of starvation perpetrated by the Assad regime against areas beyond the control of his forces in Damascus and Homs, and that there have been thousands of rape cases that were carried out by Assad forces against women and some ended with the murder of the victim.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
