Ahmad Jarba, head of the Syrian Coalition, states that the assassination of the former Lebanese minister Mohammed Chatah is “a cowardly act aimed at undermining the security and stability of Lebanon in the interest of the Assad regime and its allies who are pushing the region toward more havoc and chaos.” Jarba offered his condolences to the Lebanese people, saying that Chatah was “one of the main symbols of national reconciliation.” Jarba holds the Lebanese government responsible for Chatah’s assassination further perpetuating “lawlessness exploited by the sectarian militias and mercenaries to settle scores on the behalf of the Assad regime.” The Syrian National Council also accused the “coalition of the mullahs’ regime and the Syrian regimes of killing moderates in Lebanon. Chatah was assassinated by those who have been murdering the Syrian people in Qusair, Qalamoun, Ghouta, Aleppo, Homs and Idlib.” The Syrian National Council also state that “this bloody sectarian alliance proves it is the largest source of extremism and terrorism, and it is responsible for the prevention of political development and threatening of civil peace and the establishment of sectarian wars.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
