The Syrian Coalition commends Syrian women on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, praising efforts made by Syrian women in various fields of the Syrian revolution. “Syrian women have proven they are the pillar of the Syrian Revolution, as their faithfulness, patience and yearning for freedom boosted the steadfastness of the Syrian people during the most difficult circumstances and challenges.”
Secretary-General Mohammed Yahya Maktabi said that Syrian women have actively engaged in the revolution since its early days, starting with the founding of the Local Coordination Committees, organizing anti-regime protests, sit-ins and awareness campaigns, strikes and civil disobedience. They have also played active role in educational, health, and relief activities, and bravely entered the fields of journalism, TV, radio, theater, writing, and translation.
“There is no doubt that the creative Syrian women are capable of steering the Syrian revolution to victory and of participating in laying out a new international political system based on the right instead of force, justice instead of revenge, and equality instead of veto.”
It is worth noting that three Syrian women, Majd Sharabajee, Zeina Erhim and Suad Nofal have recently won international awards for women of courage, distinguished journalist and courage in the application of the democratic model. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
